Extra! Extra! Hot Pizza is making a magazine! In The Slice, students will learn how to create a magazine from start to finish — brainstorming ideas, writing stories, conducting interviews, taking photographs, designing layouts, selling community ads, printing, and turning it all into a real magazine to share throughout the neighbourhood.
Students will try music and ice cream reviews, investigative reporting, comics, recommendations, photography, design, and more, while learning how words, images, and big ideas come together on the page. Perfect for curious kids who like making things, asking questions, sharing opinions, and collaborating on something real. Taught by renowned journalist Amil Niazi, guest host of CBC’s Commotion, author of Life After Ambition, and founder of alt weekly Only, with Hot Pizza founder Julia Dault. Oh! And we serve actual hot pizza on the last day of class! Runs September 14, 21, 28; October 5, 12, 19, 26, and November 2. At our 1152 College Street location.
